new songs and some old. They'd have to play all night to get in all the
good ones
Somethin funky with the skin on top! Audience participation numbers were especially exciting! |

| The deafening shrill of 17,000 + shrieking teenage
girls testified to the band's popularity August 10 at Sandstone.
Teeny bopper, yes. Commercial, sure. But the 5 boys (ages 16
- 26) can dance and harmonize; ya gotta give 'em that. The
talented band behind N Sync was complete with two keyboards and a sax.
Collage film clips of the past four decades pleased the parents in the
crowd. N Sync's rendition of the Jackson Five's 1970 hit, "ABC" was
hilarious. Tons of confetti showered the seated crowd during their
rendition of the 1980's hit, "Celebrate Good Times". I enjoyed
the concert immensely, as did my young daughters who screamed their love
for "Justin" throughout. The night was glitzy, fast and fun.

| Red White and Boom June 26- Great fireworks. Great crowd. Fun bands. | ||
| A cool evening at The Sandstone Amphitheater
in Bonner Springs, Kansas, just outside of KC, brought The Allman Brothers
Band to a packed venue of veteran Brothers fans and new enthusiasts. From
the first, Derek Trucks showed the crowd what being a lead guitarist for
this band really means. His improv style was gritty and free, lending a
hard edge to Dickey Betts instrumentals, and impressing an already enthusiastic
crowd.
This show was the fourth in the band’s schedule for the summer and having the first to compare to I noticed something two minutes into the first set: the band had knitted. Derek has definitely found his niche, and the rest of the band has also warmed up to this tour. This fourth show was extremely powerful. Both guitarists played expansively. Gregg Allman’s Hammond sounded sassy, particularly during the classic In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. In fact, that number was exemplary of all the band members: a hot extended drum solo from Butch Trucks, Jaimo, and Marc Quinones was followed by Oteil Burbridge and his jazz bass guitar/scat singing solo, which was then followed by a short sweet by-play of drums and Derek and Oteil playing off each other. Much smoke during that number. I found this band very ready to take on their tour. I have to say that no matter how much energy I expend at an Allman Brothers outing, I always leave wanting more, more, more. Thank God we’ve got our tickets for Dallas already. Cliff Lake

| Dave Matthews June 12 at Sandstone - Matthews'
acoustic sound is too subtle for a large outdoor venue like Sandstone.
Vocals, guitar, fiddle, and sax were nearly inaudible underneath thunderous
drums and unintelligible, muddy bass lines.
The sold out crowd did not seem to mind. The teen and 20-something fans sang and danced throughout the show. |

That's it! I quit! Those accordian players get all the girls! |

| Sammy Hagar- "Rockfest"- at Sandstone Sunday
May 30 1999
Sammy puts on a fun, upbeat show perfect for a large outdoor venue like Sandstone. Great, fun crowd was sunburnt and tired by the time Sammy got on stage after this all day show. Restrooms were flooded by overflowed toilets. Disgusting. No privately run business would be allowed to operate under those conditions. |

05/21/99 Leon Russell
Grand Emporium Kansas City, MO
Leon looked healthy and happy two days after a David Letterman appearance. A full house at the GE was treated to country classics like George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today", "Sweet Dreams" from the movie of the same name, original blues/rock material and most all of Leon's 70's hits. A brief spoken aside about Bob Dylan was priceless. Leon closes his KC shows with "Kansas City" and this time threw his band a curve with some improvised key changes. Too much reverb buried Leon's distinctive vocals. Leon's son Teddy Jack can really play drums now! The new guitar player is outstanding and the bassist is energetic and solid. |

Nice turnout for these bands on a delightful May evening. Parking will be a problem at the City Market if the crowds get any bigger. The lukewarm Bud Light was nauseating. The new "Holy Roller" is a "best of" compilation. |
||
| Klammies April 10-Drove up to KC to see the awards. Couldn't find a parking space within four blocks. Went to the Hurricane instead. Caught the end of the good old Bon Ton Soul Accordian Band. Still lots of fun! | ||
Listen!
You have to see Tina live to appreciate her fully. This was a great show at the area's best live venue! |
||
Junior Brown April
7 at the Granada in Lawrence....Great show! Listen! |

Sunday nights at Fred's are are Kansas City's best kept secret. Drag Queen is tight and at the top of their game and won't be a secret for long. Up and coming ERIC opened the show. |

Thursday November 19 at the Hurricane Fabulous...Best Concert of the Year! |
||
|
Vocalist Ernie Locke is Kansas City's best rock performer. Parlay is not to the level of Tenderloin or Sin City Disciples but are still enjoyable. |
||
|
If I ever played a lick like Junior Brown my head would explode. |
||
|
Too crowded. Dated. Did not hold my interest. I went over the hill and listened to.. |
||

|
Fun. Great crowd Other tents were sparsely populated. |
||
|
Lots of fun. Good music. Reasonably sized crowd. |
||
|
I enjoyed Sisters scanty attire and sexy dancing. |
||
|
Great crowd. Lots of fun. Most of the "Entertainment Pavilions",(a big tent dedicated to one genre or another: blues, gospel, country, folk) were mostly empty. Reggae/World tent was rockin'. |
||
|
Silly...I almost left during the first song...I'm glad I stayed...actually pretty fun... |
||
|
Go Kart is one of my favorite local bands...PA system was not up to the task of an outdoor venue. |
||
|
Great stuff...Drag Queen's singer is a gem. Seeing her perform 8 months pregnant was unforgettable! Go Kart is now KC's most enjoyable live original rock band. |
